So you work in academia and in my years being away from academia and while I was in it, one of the craziest statistics I ever saw was that, I think it was like what, 90% of people don't get a job in their career field or like related to their degree.

It really depends on what you're going for and how far you want to climb because there's no ignoring how certain positions that you want to achieve like higher and higher up the ladder they asked for, you know, like, bachelor's, master's, doctorate, like they will require that if you want to climb up the ladder, but if you just want to study and have a career in something that you are passionate and obviously not everything requires a degree. So it really just, it really matters just what you want to go into eventually.

[80.3s]SPEAKER_01:Everybody else. I'm like, hey, hey, if you want to listen to me, cool. If you don't, cool. If what you're pursuing in your life requires the degree, then get the required degree. If it does not require the degree, then I would suggest you learn the skills and go get the degree when you need education. I think we live in a world right now where it's like, go get educated blindly. Now you're in school with learning stuff out of context.
[119.3s]SPEAKER_00:Right, and you don't even actually love it or see yourself in it. I mean, specifically what I do too is I am an admissions counselor. So that's what my entire job revolves around is students come to me and they're like, I want to go to college or, or in general, I want to see what my options are after high school. What are my options? And that's my whole job is just letting them know all the options if they choose to pursue higher education and then also the options if they don't. So it's about setting them up for success no matter what path they choose. That's why I highly believe in you don't have to have a degree all the time, but just know what you're going to pursue because then that'll help you.

I'm like, my logic about this is cold. It's like, yo, if you need it, go get it. If you don't, can you at least go confirm that you need it?

I just don't like that people make it seem like the degree is the reason they make more money. I'm like, no, but there is a truth to this part. If you stuck it out for four plus years of going to the same place, studying and working or something, you are a different person.
